They say that “mit yidish ken men oysforn a velt” (with Yiddish you can travel the world). Here are some of the places I’ve been with Yiddish.

Poland, 2007 – I taught Yiddish song at the Seminarium języka i kultury jidysz (Seminar of Yiddish Language and Culture), organized by the Fundacja Shalom in Warsaw. Australia, 2011 – I had a month-long residency in Melbourne, Australia, organized by the committee “Yiddish Australia” and supported by the Benyumen Shekhter Foundation. Mexico City, 2015 – Shane Baker and I presented “Idishe Peña: Un espectáculo de canciones y literatura en Yiddish”, an evening of scenes, songs, and recitations, at the Kehile, accompanied by Adolfo Silva at the piano. During the trip, Tamara Gleason Freidberg  of the Idish Vinkl was our wonderful organizer, chauffeur, and guide, and we got to meet local Yiddishists including the legendary Vela Zabludowsky. View pictures of the event here and a video of the community zingeray (singalong) here.
